Nice anecdote
Sunday, July 10th, 2005The process will set you free." ~ Chuck Close
Visionary artist Charles Thomas Close (1940-) was born on this
day in Monroe, Washington. Dyslexic, when he was 11, his father
died, then his mother battled breast cancer. He coped by
drawing.
"In life, you have to deal with your fear, the part of you that
says, ‘I can’t do it,’" he said.
Calling himself "an artist looking for trouble," Close has
explored new ways of creating portraits, focusing on his
subject’s skin, neck, hair, and background. "I wanted to make
those areas almost as interesting and important as the more
symbolic areas of the face," he explained.
His art is something to see: LARGE self-portraits, portraits of
his family members and friends, like composer Philip Glass and
artist Richard Serra. Large, detailed–black and white or
color… Through etching, lithography, handmade paper, Japanese
woodcut, or silkscreen.
For Close, it is all about the process. More than just photo
realism, he creates something amazingly magical: He starts with
a photo, applying paint to a grid, what he called "the rhythmic
beat of the squares" that fall on the image. "I’m always
bringing each square along by, relatively intuitively - what
does it need now?"
Close’s life has been just as remarkable as his art. Living with
passion and courage, in 1988, at the height of his career, a
spinal blood clot made him a quadriplegic. His spirit was never
paralyzed, with a paintbrush clamped between his teeth, he
continued to search for new ways to create and inspire.
"I know a lot of people who are paralyzed in other ways, even if
they can walk," he said.
"I learned you could suffer a terrible tragedy and still be
happy again."

Whatever We Imagine
Wednesday, July 6th, 2005Don’t be afraid
I can meet you half way
We cant always know
Where the road ends up
But with some luck
I know we can go
Where-ever we imagine
Why should we wait
Later on maybe too late
Cause where can we run
When you see there’s half a chance
That we might really become
Whatever we imagine
And I imagine you and me
Just taking shots at what we see
And if we falter
Take away the dust
And just outlast them all
You ought to see
All your heroes in me
But if we get wise
We can break the walls we make
And you can see in my eyes
Whatever we imagine
And I imagine you and me
Just taking shots at what we see
So let the walls go down
And we can try it again
Cause nobody can stop us now
Dont be afraid
Cause I’ll meet you half way
You’re not far behind
If we climb this hill
I know there’s still a chance we can find
Whatever we imagine in our life
We can make it there baby
Ohhh, Whatever we imagine
Dont you see baby
It’s all in our minds
I’ll meet you halfway
Whatever we imagine

What is Burn-Out? Burn-Out occurs where highly committed people lose interest and motivation. You are at risk of burnout where: you find it difficult to say ‘no’ to additional commitments or responsibilities you have been under intense and sustained pressure for some time your high standards make it difficult to delegate to assistants you have been trying to achieve too much for too long you have been giving too much emotional support for too long. Often burn-out will manifest itself in a reduction in motivation, volume and quality of performance, or in dissatisfaction with or departure from the activity altogether.
Symptoms of burn-out are shown below:
- A feeling of lack of control over commitments
- An incorrect belief that you are accomplishing less
- A growing tendency to think negatively
- Loss of a sense of purpose and energy
- Increasing detachment from relationships.
Avoiding Burn-Out. If you working very hard, then you should take great care not to burn-out. You can avoid mental burn-out by ensuring that what you do remains fun: there is a limit to your mental energy that you should respect. You must learn to say ‘No’ to commitments that you do not want to take on - otherwise you will be in severe danger of burning out as you become unhappy with your situation.
If You Have Burned Out…
If you are so demotivated that for a time you do not want to continue with what you do, then take some time off. (kandi: boss, pahingi ng leave mo, ubos na sakin e). Alternatively try to switch to another area of activity within your organisation. If you come back later, you may find that you start to enjoy work again. (kandi: waahhh! enjoy work?)
You may, however, find that you have absolutely no interest in continuing with what you are doing. In this case it may be best to drop it altogether. (kandi: sounds tempting)
Fallen Petal
Friday, July 1st, 2005Petal has fallen
the angel has died. How? stabbed repeatedly between the shoulders.
The flower behind her ear stayed there for quite sometime before it wilted and petal fell one by one.
Till all that was left was a dry, brown stem. "Goodbye" she said.
The Human Heart
Friday, July 1st, 2005The Human Heart
The courage of a dreamer The innocence of youth
The failures and the foolishness That lead us to the truth
The hopes that Make us happy
The hopes that Don’t come true
And all the love There ever was
I see this all In you
You are part
Part of the Human heart
You are part…
Of all who took the journey And managed to endure
The ones who knew such tenderness The ones who felt so sure
The ones who Came before you
The others yet To come
And those who You will teach It to
And those you Learned it from
You are part
Part of the Human heart
You are part…
This is the gift I give
Through your love you’ll live
Forever… Forever
You are part
Part of the Human heart
You are part…
Tonight… Tonight
Part of the human heart.
